How to Run PLSE Teatime
Largely mirrored from here.
At PLSE, we’re lucky to have a “teatime” at 1pm on Thurdsays. It sounds exactly what it is, we come together in the lab and have some tea over small bites.
Running PLSE teatime is a pretty simple process. Just follow the instructions below:
-
A day or two before, ask folks if they’re coming to teatime. You can do this individually or just post a message in the #teatime channel on Slack and ask for reacts if people are planning to come.
-
Get the snacks (and maybe tea)! Ask the current teatime lead for the budget! Asking folks if they are coming also gives you some approximation of how much things you should get. Keep your receipts!.
-
Send a reminder message on Thursday morning that teatime is indeed happening. This can be a simple message like “Teatime at 1pm today”. You should broadcast this on the #teatime and #plse-friends channels.
- Run teatime! Setting up around 10min before the start works pretty well.
Get a kettle of some sort (Amy is usually very happy to lend her pink kettle,
ask her about it), and lay out the spread in the middle table in the PLSE lab.
Scroll up through #teatime for some pictures of previous teatime spreads.
- Collect the names and CSE NetIDs of folks who attend! an easy way to do this is to pass a sheet of paper around and ask folks to fill it in. You need this to get reimbursed!
- Have fun! If this is your first time running teatime, ask someone who’s done it before to help you brew the tea. That said, we’re not picky.
-
Clean up! Nobody likes a messy lab with leftover crumbs from teatime. Everyone should chip in, and everyone should be responsible for cleaning their own teacups and returning them to the plastic tub (remind folks nicely if they forget).
- Get reimbursed! Don’t forget to submit your reimbursement for the snacks (and tea, if you bought it). You need the sheet of paper with the names and CSE NetID (from 4) as well as the receipt(s) for the snacks you bought. Attach both to an email you’ll send to Anna W. (ask around for her email), and cc Zach Tatlock and the current teatime lead.
